A1 Time For Art
A1 Time For Art
Sold for $12,700
The unique Anoma A1 Time for Art was auctioned at Phillips for $12,700 in December 2024. All the proceeds were donated to charity as part of the first and only watch auction designed to directly benefit contemporary artists.
The dial of this unique piece features an engraved pattern inspired by optical art, a visual art style that uses geometric shapes, patterns, and colours to create optical illusions. Throughout the design process, we particularly drew inspiration from the works of artists Bridget Riley and Ferruccio Gard.
A sequence of slightly offset triangles is repeated across the dial, creating a captivating optical illusion that gives the dial a sense of three-dimensionality and dynamic light play. When the light interacts with it, the design shifts and evolves, revealing intricate patterns within the pattern.
The optical pattern is engraved directly into the metal base, and then coated in several layers of black lacquer, enhancing its glossy finish and the sensation of depth.
In keeping with the artistic nature of the watch, the dial remains free of any brand signature or indices, allowing the intricate pattern to take centre stage.
"This new piece keeps the art and design vibes strong with a trippy dial inspired by the paintings of Bridget Riley and Ferruccio Gard. Distinction, Anoma."
