Anoma creates wearable sculptures, inspired by the rich world beyond watchmaking. The watch's rounded triangular shape was inspired by a 1950s free form table by Charlotte Perriand. We first came across one in a Parisian antique gallery a few years ago. We were also inspired by the organic softness of river stones, valued for their tactility and naturally pleasing silhouette, and the dynamism of Constantin Brancusi's modernist sculptures.

The A1 Abyss and A1 Stone represent the purest, most distilled expression of the A1. Both play on contrasting textures and restrained, nature-inspired design. The A1 Abyss aims to capture the depth of the ocean, whilst the A1 Stone draws from the texture and tonality of river stones.

The dial of the A1 Abyss is built from three layers of lacquer — one greenish-blue, two deep midnight blue — finished with a mirror-polished centre, sunburst outer, and silver printing. The A1 Stone features an abrasively blasted centre that echoes the surface of river stones, paired with a sharp sunburst outer and silver printing for a clean, monochromatic look.

Across both pieces, the sculptural case bends light and reflections, subtly reshaping the world around it. To preserve the purity of the form, we concealed distractions by hiding the lugs, crown, and other superfluous details.

Our Inspiration

The watch's rounded triangular shape was inspired by a 1950s free form table by Charlotte Perriand. We first came across one in a Parisian antique gallery a few years ago.

We were also inspired by the organic softness of river stones, valued for their tactility and naturally pleasing silhouette.

The 1930s modernist sculptures of Constantin Brancusi deeply influenced us, particularly in their ability to convey movement and create tension by contrasting thick and thin sections.

“It was love at first sight. On the wrist, it embodies a piece of art awaiting attraction and admiration.”

Roni Madhvani – Collector

Sculptural Form

The case combines two overlapping triangles, deliberately offset to create a sense of movement and tension between thick and thin sections.

To focus on the purity of the forms, we concealed any distractions by hiding the lugs, crown, and any other superfluous details.

Layered Dials

The dials are designed to simultaneously contrast and complement the case.

The A1 Abyss is inspired by the depth of the ocean, while the A1 Stone draws from the rough texture of pebbles.

Five layers of lacquer give the dials their distinctive depth and character. The result is a multifaceted surface that shifts between a rich, glossy depth and a sharply textured two tone appearance.

Subtle Details

The A1 is filled with subtle, hidden details that reflect our dedication to refinement at every level — from the shaped buckle to the perlage finish on the inside of the caseback.

Even if hidden from view, we believe these minute choices influence the quality and energy of the object.

How does it wear?

The A1 was carefully designed to be as comfortable as possible, on all kinds of wrists. The case measures 39mm by 39mm, but it wears closer to 37mm, thanks to its triangular shape, lack of lugs and hidden crown.

The case is 9.45mm thick, but the bottom 3mm curve inwards, allowing them to disappear into the wrist when the watch is worn. This makes the A1 wear even thinner than its dimensions would suggest.

Due to the soft, rounded profile of the case and the wrist bone holding the watch in place, the tip of the triangle at 3 o’clock does not cause any discomfort.

The circumference of the wrist in photography are 16.5cm (6.5 inches).
